Shovel the Coal 2024 is one of DRAP's most original creations, bringing together the tension of Riesling with the finesse of Pinot Noir in a co-fermented field blend. By combining directly pressed grapes with skin-macerated fruit, the wine captures the vibrant minerality of Moon in the Window and the juicy character of Bird on the Pole, resulting in a wine that is both energetic and deeply expressive.
Origin: Germany & France Grapes: 85% Riesling, 15% Pinot Noir Style: Co-fermented white & red Year: 2024 Alcohol: 11.2% Vinification: A blend of directly pressed and skin-macerated grapes, aged for approximately 16 months in a single oak barrel before bottling. The fruit comes from limestone, granite and clay soils in Germany and France. Handpicked, bottled unfiltered, with no additives.
Bright citrus, crunchy red berries and white peach are layered with floral notes, subtle spice and a distinctive saline minerality. The long barrel ageing brings texture and harmony, while the co-fermentation keeps the wine vibrant, precise and remarkably drinkable.
Shovel the Coal is a beautifully unconventional wine that sits comfortably between white and red. Fresh, textured and endlessly versatile, it's equally at home with grilled fish, roast poultry, charcuterie or simply served slightly chilled on its own.

WHAT TYPE OF GROWERS WE WORK WITH
OIur wines are a reflection of nature's truest form. We partner only with biodynamic vineyards—places where vines are nurtured with a reverence for the earth and a deep respect for natural rhythms. These vineyards view the soil not as a means to an end but as a living, breathing ecosystem. By working in harmony with the land, they cultivate wines that are as alive as the soils they spring from.
Our wines hold the pure expression of the vine, untouched by chemical interference and guided by the wisdom of traditional methods. Each bottle carries an honest snapshot of its origin: the seasons, the hands that tended the vines, and the character of the soil itself. These are wines with a pulse, honest and unapologetic, offering a taste of nature in its unaltered state.
